Terms of Use

With the aid of volunteers we are rapidly expanding our collection of indexes to wonderful historical Scottish records. We are making these records and indexes available online and allowing access for free because we want people to use them to the full. Whether you are using Scottish Indexes for your own personal research or acting as a professional you are free to use the data we have put online as long as you are willing to abide by the following basic conditions:

You may not use automatic tools such as bots, crawlers or spiders to access our site and download data. You may also not publish data, gleaned by means of bots or any other method, in any form without permission from Graham and Emma Maxwell, the owners of the website.

If your academic research requires that you analyse large data sets please get in touch and in most cases we are happy to help either for free or for a small fee.

If you are a professional genealogist and want to clarify your use of our data or how to credit us please just contact Emma who will be happy to help.

Images of records supplied as part of genealogy research carried out on your behalf may not be published (including online) without the permission of the relevant copyright holders. If you wish to use images online or in a book please do contact us and we will do all we can to assist you in obtaining the relevant permissions.
